In God We Trust

Job 13:15

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Psalm 20:7

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

Romans 8:28

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

(NASU)

Hardest scripture in the Bible for me to comprehend and accept at face value.

  • Maybe God forgets on some things
  • Everything??????
  • Good???????

Trust:

A condition in which one is free from doubt:

  • Certainty
  • Assurance
  • Assuredness
  • Certitude
  • Confidence
  • Conviction
  • Sureness
  • Surety
  • Positiveness
  • Conclusiveness
  • Belief
  • Faith
  • Presumption

Certainty in another’s trustworthiness:

  • Belief
  • Confidence
  • Faith
  • Reliance
  • Credence
  • Certitude
  • Conviction
  • Dependence

1 Kings 17:10-16

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

  • This is faith
  • Only faith
  • Miraculous provision
  • Continual provision
  • Daily miracle
  • Only prepared her for what was coming

1 Kings 17:17-24

17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again.

22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.

  • Provision made way for the real miracle
  • Son died
  • Why has this happened and what am I to do?
  • Give me the problem and we will take it to the one who has been providing all along
  • By this I know that I can trust the Lord

Trust can only be proven by time!

When I was a child, I trusted my parents for:

  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Housing
  • Protection
  • Love
  • Warmth
  • Affirmation
  • Direction

I did not get up every day asking for these things. I just trusted them to provide them everyday.

Too many times we place God in the role of a “sugar daddy”. We feel like we must continually ask Him for things or we will not receive them.

We must learn to trust Him for the provisional miracles, and when the time comes of life and death will become the miraculous that we need.

You were a child…

Mark 10:15

Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

Matthew 18:3

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

As we mature in Christ, the younger our hearts are going to have to become.

2 Cor. 12:7-10

7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

  • Messenger of Satan
  • I am sure that Satan thought this was his idea, and told Paul this many times
  • But rather the Lord allowed this to happen to allow Paul to grow in God
  • With the revelation came the knowledge that the more struggles, the greater the power
  • Paul learned to TRUST that God would not allow anything to come that would overcome him
  • My strength is made perfect in weakness
  • All of my hang-ups, problems, circumstances just become tools for God to use to prove His greatness

Jesus is not our:

  • Sugar daddy
  • Sears & Roebuck catalog
  • Desperate end
  • Last resort

But rather our:

  • Help in time of trouble
  • Miracle worker
  • Only hope

We could not walk one step, breathe on breath, or make one move without God.  I choose to TRUST Him for everything instead of just what I want.

Faith provides the spark for the miraculous, but trust is what puts us in the position to receive and believe that God can and will do the miraculous.

Genesis 22:4-13

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off.

5 And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you,

6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife; and they went both of them together.

7 And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?

8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

9 And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

10 And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.

11 And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

TRUST PROVIDED THE MEANS FOR THE MIRACLE!!!
