Let Me Show You Jesus

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 25:34-40

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Let Me Show You Jesus!

We live in a world of words.

  • We communicate with our words.
  • No matter where you go in this world today, you will find there a language that is spoken.
  • It may be different than the language that is spoken where you come from, but there are languages made up of words nonetheless.

I have traveled to other places in the world to do mission work and it is always very strange and uncomfortable when I am in a place where I do not speak or understand the language.

  • Many times I’ve had to gesture to someone what I want or use facial expressions to acknowledge my appreciation for their help or assistance because I didn’t speak their language.

Language is important.

  • Without it communication is lost.

But there are some things that language cannot explain.

  • There are some things that words cannot express.

  • There are some things that you just have to see with your own eyes.

  • I could try all day to describe to you the grandeur of the Grand Canyon, but until you have stood on the cliff that overhangs the side of that incredible precipice you have never really experienced the Grande Canyon.

  • I could talk all day and do my best to explain the suffering that goes on in much of the world today, but until you’ve seen it with your own eyes, you would never understand how many people in the world live today.

  • Understand that there are some things in this world that are just too complex and too vast and too amazing to try to explain with words – you just have to go see some things for yourself.

  • If I really wanted you to understand what it is that I am trying to convey to you or show you about something, I would serve you better by taking you to the thing or showing it to you first hand so you could understand fully what it was I am describing with my words.

  • You just have to experience it for yourself.

I hear so many people today trying to tell the world who Jesus is.

  • I hear so many preachers even on TV doing their best to describe to this troubled world that Jesus is.

  • I’m standing here this morning trying my best with words to speak to you about Him and to share with you a message I believe He would want me to share with you here today.

  • But as best I try, I could never fully explain to you who Jesus is or what He is.
  • I will every week, stand before you in an attempt to preach to you Jesus Christ.

But when the message is over…

  • When the sermon is finished…
  • I then have to show you Jesus.

You see the sermon here today is only a small part of my job as Pastor to show you who Jesus is.

  • I have to then live Jesus in front of you.
  • I then have to extend grace as Jesus would.
  • I then have to love you the way Jesus loves you.
  • I have to forgive and restore you the way He wants to forgive and restore you.

Through the years I’ve been on the job or in the workplace where some well meaning Christian is preaching to their co-workers.

  • With cheap and even idle words they try to win these people without attempting to show the person Jesus.
  • Without ever stepping out of their comfort zone, they use words to try to show people the Love of God.
  • We need to understand today that words could never truly describe the Love of Jesus.
  • Words can never fully depict the vast and incredible love that our savior has for us today.

If this world is ever going to see Jesus, they are going to have to see it not by our words, but by our actions.

  • Our shirts say it, “Let me show you Jesus”.
  • That’s a bold statement.
  • So bold that I was concerned about having them printed and handing them out.
  • I would say that is the boldest statement we as a church could make.
  • “Let me show you Jesus.”

Showing people Jesus is going to take commitment.

  • Showing people Jesus is going to take sacrifice.
  • Showing people Jesus is going to take us getting out of our comfort zones.
  • It’s going to take us going into some neighborhoods we may not feel comfortable going into.
  • It’s going to take us spending time with someone who makes us feel uneasy.
  • It’s going to take us feeding the hungry
  • Clothing the naked
  • Visiting the sick and imprisoned.
  • It’s going to take us acting like Christians instead of heathens.
  • It’s going to take us reaching out to help our neighbors.
  • It’s going to take us loving this world that may very well hate us.

  • If we are going to show this world Jesus, it may very well take a whole lot more than what the world has been seeing in us.

I’ve seen and even been one of those who go door to door telling people about Jesus Christ.

  • We stand on their doorsteps and ask them to join our church.
  • We tell them that our religion is better than what they have.
  • We tell them that we have Jesus living in our hearts.

But the problem that many people have is they have Jesus all locked up tight in their hearts and they never let Him out.

  • He’s become some little thing that they only do on a Sunday morning.
  • He’s only taken out when they have some need or problem in their life.

  • But I want you to know today that if we could ever get Jesus out of here (Point to my heart)
  • If we could ever get to a point where people are seeing Jesus in and through us.
  • If we could ever get to the place where they don’t even need to hear our words to see our God – Then – we would truly be showing people Jesus.

We all know today that this world needs to see Jesus.

  • We all know today that the only hope for this troubled world is that they might come into a relationship with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
  • He is the answer for the world’s problems.
  • He is the only one who can heal them.

  • This world needs to see Jesus
  • They don’t need to see Jim they need to see Jesus.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve grown very tired of my own attempt to reach people with words.

  • Words are cheap.
  • Words are easy.
  • Words don’t take much commitment.
  • Words don’t take much sacrifice.

Anybody can offer words,

  • But who will take out of their want to feed someone who has no food.
  • Who would go in their closet and pull out a few outfits for someone who has nothing to wear.
  • Who would care for and minister to someone who has fallen sick.
  • Who would buy a Christmas gift for a child that they don’t even know and may never meet?

Let me show you Jesus is the Theme of this church.

  • It is our mantra.
  • It is who we will become.
  • We’re not there yet, but we’re heading in that direction very quickly.
  • Should the lord tarry and should he bless us, the campus of Acacia will be more than just a place to have church; it will become a beacon and a lighthouse to the community in which God places it.
  • It will be a place where lives are truly changed.
  • It will be a place where hope is absolutely restored.
  • It will be a place where people can see Jesus through those who call themselves Acacia.

We say we have a great message.

  • We say we have a great hope.
  • We say we have something that the worlds needs.

  • Let’s stop saying it and lets start showing it.
  • Let’s begin to minister to those who God places before us.
  • Lets start to become what we keep preaching about.

Let’s show them Jesus.

Mark 16:15-18

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

If you truly want to make a difference in someone’s life, why don’t you take an hour or two out of your busy schedule and teach them what the bible says.  Show them that you care enough about them that you would sacrifice your time to teach them a bible study.

There seems to be an emphasis on the word God in vs. 26,

  • In fact it’s capitalized for a reason.
  • Many people want to preach the gospel as long as they don’t have to go anywhere.
  • Now I’m not saying you have to move to some other nation to share Word of God with people, but you do have to go.
  • You have to go into their homes.
  • You have to go into their school.
  • You have to go into wherever it is that they live in order to share this message with them.
  • You can’t show someone Jesus if your not willing to get in your car and drive to his or her house once in a while to minster to him or her.
  • But that’s what it’s going to take for you to show them Jesus – isn’t it…?

Let me show you Jesus.

Let me introduce you to Him.

Let me demonstrate for you who He really is and how much He cares for you.

Why don’t we take a few minutes and kneel at our chairs or come up around the front here and pray for a little while.

  • Let’s ask Jesus to help us to represent Him.
  • Let’s ask Him to give us the boldness we need to show Jesus to this world.
