WHY DO WE SPEAK IN TONGUES?

I RECALL A STORY FOUND IN 2 Kings 7 about 4 leprous men.

II Kings 7:3-8

3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?

4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

5 And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.

6 For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.

(KJV)

These 4 lepers and the people within the city were spared, or saved, by a sound from God.

Sound has an affect on things . . . even people.

Acts 2:1-6

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound (a loud or confused noise, roar) from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (enunciate plainly).

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

(KJV)

God often uses sound to accomplish His purpose and works.

Scientist search for the building blocks of life

They asked . . .

What is the essence of physical reality, or human existence?

It’s not just chunks of matter, as scientist once thought, but it is the empty spaces in between . . . or pockets of energy, moments of experience relationship . . . that is the essence of physical reality and human existence.

Back in the 1950’s scientists thought that the smallest piece of matter was an atom.

They then concluded that atoms were the building blocks of the universe!

But then . . . in 1960 they realized that they had made a big mistake.

They were now able to look inside the atom and found that it was not solid!

It was basically a lot of empty space with something smaller inside that was called a nucleus.

A few years after that they were able to look inside of the nucleus and they discovered that it was not solid . . .  but it was basically a lot of empty space with something smaller inside called protons and neutrons.

So, the conclusion at that time was that these protons and neutrons were the building blocks of the universe.

But several years ago they were able to look inside of the protons and neutrons and guess what?

They found that they are also filled with mostly empty space with tiny particles inside called quarks and gluons.

So then they concluded that this is the smallest . . . these are the building blocks of the universe!

They have since found out that there is something smaller than that! There is something inside the quarks and gluons. These little particles are called leptons, and guess what . . . inside the leptons it is mostly empty space!

So the point is this . . . inside every atom is a lot of empty space which is  like a little solar system in miniature.

Tiny particles surrounded by empty space.

Who knows what is going to be discovered in the next few years?

Is there an end to it?

When we think of infinity, we always think, “How far can we go out? How big does it get?”

But we never think how small can it get?

We think of what we call outer space, the universe.

A galaxy, such as our own Milky Way, has hundreds of thousands or even millions or billions of stars.

The speed of light is approximately 186,000 miles per second, and some stars in the same galaxy are hundreds of thousands of light years of travel apart even at that speed!

And there are billions of galaxies that we know about . . . but perhaps more that we don’t know about.

There are stars that are larger than from the center of our sun to beyond the earth, and beyond the farthest planets in our solar system. The earth is the third closest to the sun and it is 93,000,000 miles away.

There are black holes that can suck up entire suns, even entire galaxies, and not even allow the light of those billions of stars to shine out.

In the area of the sky that we call the bowl of the Big Dipper alone there are millions of known galaxies just in that region alone!

And the universe is expanding away from its center at a speed of almost the speed of light! It is growing and getting bigger by the moment!

Since I spoke that last sentence the known universe is easily several million miles larger than before I made that statement!

And beyond the galaxies are the most powerful known objects in the universe . . . more powerful than a black hole . . . they emit more power than a thousand combined galaxies . . . and yet they are smaller in size than our own sun. These objects are known as quasars.

When the Hubble telescope was repaired and white robed professional astronomers first looked upon regions and clarity of the universe no mortal eye had ever seen before, it was written that their faces paled and turned white, and one was quoted as saying, “My God, it is bigger than we ever thought it was!”

So, when we speak of infinity, it is easy to speak in size of how big can it get?

The finite and carnal mind says, “There has to be an end to it?”

But then comes the question . . . What then, is on the other side?

And yet our God holds them in the span of His hand!

He calls each of the stars by name!

He spoke it into existence, and it is still obeying his command to this day!

When you ponder the topic of infinity, the universe is not large enough . . . you have to think about the God who created it all . . . with the power of His spoken Word!

In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.

And God called . . .

And God said . . .

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made.

And the Word was made flesh . . .

And when Jesus spoke to a raging storm on a boiling ocean the simple words, “Peace, be still!”

Even the winds and the sea obeyed the sound of His voice!

We can think of how big infinity is, but can we think that the same principle applies in the opposite direction?

That no matter how small you get, the same rules apply?

And that God is above all, through all, and in you all!

To put it simply . . . all of matter is composed of atoms that are filled with empty space with a few little particles inside . . . on a possibly never ending decreasing basis.

Have you ever pondered or considered why God made things that way?

Why did He choose to use a little matter and a lot of empty space to make up all things?

Because when God sets a rule or law He follows it . . . and all things consist of empty space with a little matter inside.

There are laws that defy our imagination and understanding.

Here’s a simple one for you to guess . . . if you take a large piece of regular typing paper and fold it in half, and fold it again and again until you have folded it 50 times, how tall would the stack of paper be? (Answer: It would reach from the earth to the sun, and folded just one more time it would reach from the earth to the sun and back to the earth again!)

There are an incalculable number of atoms in the universe, but according to physicists, there are more notes that can be played on the 88 keys of the piano than there are atoms in the entire universe!

Now wait a minute. . . that does not seem right?

What about all of the atoms in all of the people, in all of the planets, in all of the rocks in all of the universe? What about all of that solid stuff?

I mean, that’s a lot of atoms to take up a lot of space!

What about all of the atoms in the skyscrapers and the houses and the roads and the cities, and etc.?

That’s a lot of solid stuff!

A lot of particles.

A lot of matter.

But, wait a minute, don’t forget those empty spaces.

It is the empty spaces, the pockets of energy . . . that make atoms hold together, to form matter or a solid substance such as a human being.

According to physicist, if you took all of the empty spaces out of all of the atoms out of all of the six billion people alive on the planet right now . . . and gathered just the solid stuff . . . it would be only enough to fill an ordinary beach ball!

Scientists believe that the thing that determines what happens to a piece of matter goes on in the empty spaces.

The Center for Non-Linear Studies in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a place where they are studying something called complexity science.

Scientists contend that all matter is held together by vibrating threads of energy that make up life.

Your body is sending off vibrations.

Every one of your cells is in a constant state of vibration.

In a spiritual sense, the question is not what are you made of, but the real question is what are you going to allow to fill all of that empty space?

It has been said that the ear is the gateway of the soul.

Our ears enable us to discern or perceive sounds.

Voices, music, and such, are vibrations that the ear perceives and we call it sound.

Our spiritual ears enable us to discern the voice of God.

Hearing is based upon vibration.

Deuteronomy 6:4

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Sound is a function of vibrations which give off frequencies.

We hear something because we pick up its vibrations.

That is why your ear has a concave shape, so it can pick up those vibrations.

When you hear, the outer ear works like a funnel to catch sound waves and deliver them to the eardrum (tympanic membrane). This causes the eardrum to vibrate, which sets three tiny middle ear bones in motion. The vibrations are then transferred through your middle ear to the inner ear and the cochlea, a complex fluid-filled system with thousands of nerve endings. There the vibrations are converted into electro-chemical impulses and sent on to your brain for interpretation.

Sound is a pressure disturbance originating from a vibrating object and propagated by the molecules of the medium (usually air).  Consider a sound arising from a vibrating tuning fork.  If the fork is struck on the left, its prongs move first to the right, creating an area of high pressure by compressing the air molecules there.  Then, as the prongs rebound to the left, the air on the left will be a rarefied, or low-pressure, area (since most of its air molecules have been pushed farther to the right).  As the fork vibrates alternately from right to left, it produces a series of compressions and rarefactions (low-pressure zones), collectively called a sound wave, which moves outward in all directions.  However, the individual air molecules just vibrate back and forth for short distances as they bump other molecules and rebound.  Since the outward-moving molecules give up kinetic energy to the molecules they bump, energy is always transferred in the direction the in which the sound wave is traveling.  Thus, with time and distance, the energy of the wave declines and the sound dies a    “natural death”.

That is important. Again, the Bible says:

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

God wanted them to hear good vibrations constantly about the oneness of God until it got down inside them.

These words shall be in thine heart!

Sound waves that vibrate on your eardrum, enter into your mind and heart, (the understanding, the intellect, the comprehension).

And then you are going to start talking about it . . . vibrating it out . . . resonating the same vibrations that God says.

Resonating it to your kids . . . The Lord our God is one God . . . His name is great and greatly to be praised!

When you walk, when you lie down to bed at night, when you enter the door of the house . . . you are resonating good vibrations unto the Lord.

You say . . . He’s One God; He’s a mighty God; He’s an awesome God; and He is greatly to be praised.

When you wake up in the morning and you go unto the job . . . He’s one God; He’s a mighty God; He’s an awesome God; He’s an everlasting God; He shall supply my every need.

Everywhere and everyplace you go . . . we are supposed to send out good vibrations about the awesomeness of God.

The ear gate is a natural conduit between God and all of creation.

God wants our whole beings to vibrate with the knowledge of who He is.

He wants us to be an echo of Himself.

From a Biblical perspective . . . faith is not a visual thing, it is a vibration thing.

Romans 10:14-15

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Romans 10:17-18

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

1 Corinthians 1:21

21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

God chose the rapid vibrations of a preacher’s vocal chords to present Himself to humanity!

You can’t know God by the wisdom that comes naturally in the world . . . you come to know Him by the vibrations of the spoken Word of God as it enters into your heart and impacts your understanding.

It seems foolish to the world . . . what I am doing right now seems crazy . . . but vocal vibrations about the One true and living God can create something inside of you that energizes that empty space . . .

Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of the Lord.

When we speak of the manifold goodness of God, He is in those sound waves.

I am not just speaking off the top of my head . . . God is in these sound waves right now!

That is why you are feeling His presence!

You are feeling some good vibrations!

It is glad tidings of good things!

Faith does not come be seeing . . . it comes by vibration. It does not matter what it looks like . . . but what matters is WHAT DOES GOD HAVE TO SAY ABOUT IT!

God wants us to listen up and to hear His word.

God wants to speak to us and through us!

Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and the intents of the heart.

God’s Word fills up all of the empty spaces of my body with good vibrations.

Psalms 147:15

15 He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.

It runneth very swiftly . . . it is going down into your genome right now . . . it’s going through your DNA . . . that’s why:

Acts 10:44-46

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

God is in the vibrations of the tongue!

Scientists say that cosmic vibrations are everywhere . . . from cellular phones to radios to tuning forks to snowflakes . . . everything emits vibrations . . . sounds that will either feed or famish your soul.

There are good vibes, and there are bad vibes.

This has produced a new academic field called acoustic ecology . . . studying the sounds that people listen to.

“he that hath an ear to hear, let him hear!”

What are we listening to these days?

Let’s go back to the beginning again . . . “And God said let there be light and there was light.”

It was a spoken event.

Creation was brought into existence by the vibrations of a mighty God.

Creation was sounded forth.

One Hebrew text translates this scripture, “GOD SANG, LET THERE BE LIGHT, AND THERE WAS LIGHT.”

Creation is still singing. The melody of God is still lingering. It did not stop when God rested on the seventh day. God is still vibrating tonight.

Psalms 19:1-4

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

4 Their line (or their song) is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.

Recent scientific discoveries proclaim that sound waves shake the cosmos.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore are saying that acoustic vibrations in the universe help structure the matter of the universe into galaxies and galaxy clusters. They believe that the world is a collection of acoustic waves or vibration.

My God . . . and the Bible has declared that fact from the beginning!

I feel like shouting!

Modern technology is not disproving God . . . it is proving plainly that there is a God!

Two researchers from Yale University took the sounds of the planets they had recorded and put them into a computer and played it through a synthesizer.

Guess what?

It all harmonized!

Because everything in the spiritual realm has a parallel in the physical realm . . . and celestial bodies are types and shadows of the church and the human body.

And they also must be in harmony to function correctly according to the plan of God.

David Draimer has composed a musical translation of DNA sequences. He calls it DNA music because it harmonizes.

All matter has vibrations, and the vibrations hold the matter together. THE WORLDS WERE FRAMED BY THE WORD OF GOD.

Without the Word of God everything would crumble and fall apart.

BUT GOD’S WORD KEEPS EVERYTHING TOGETHER.

When you lose God’s Word in your life:

  • Expect trouble
  • Expect job difficulties
  • Expect family problems
  • Expect health disorders

THAT IS WHY WE CLING TO THE WORD OF GOD!

WE HAVE TO EAT THE WORD OF GOD.

  • Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

One Greek philosopher said “a stone is actually frozen music”.

Now doesn’t that sound crazy?

No, I don’t think so . . .

Jesus Himself said in Luke 19:40, “I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.”

There’s some good vibrations in that rock, and if some Pentecostal padded-pew dweller won’t do it, Jesus will find a rock to praise Him!

It’s time to shout the shout of victory!

David said, “Bless the Lord, O my soul” . . . but he did not stop there . . . he continued, “and all that is within me.”

THIS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
NEVER AGAIN SHOULD BE CONTENT TO JUST SIT DOWN ON GOD!

Romans 8:22-23

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth (vibrates) and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

He was talking about a spiritual rebirth.

You must be born again . . . that is what Jesus said.

Everything has a sound and a rhythm.

Animals, plants, objects . . . everything.

That is not New Age. That is the Word of God, all of creation is vibrating with the Word of God.

That started back on the first day of creation.

Let’s read this together . . . sit up on the edge of your seat and don’t slide back . . . we don’t need any backsliders right now . . .

Psalms 148:1-14

1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights.

2 Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.

3 Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.

4 Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.

5 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.

6 He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.

7 Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:

8 Fire, and hail; snow, and vapour; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

9 Mountains, and all hills; fruitful trees, and all cedars:

10 Beasts, and all cattle; creeping things, and flying fowl:

11 Kings of the earth, and all people; princes, and all judges of the earth:

12 Both young men, and maidens; old men, and children:

13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.

14 He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.

The universe is more than just a random vibrational matrix.

Scientists are saying that from the vibrations of the universe comes a gigantic harmonic rhythm.

As an example:

Out of the electron shell of the carbon atom come the vibrations of the tone scale in perfect order. C,D,E,F,G,A

I guess we could say that every atom sings a song!

Scientists are saying that the very nuclei of atoms make music, and that the whole universe obeys the laws of harmonics . . . and that is not by accident!

Those who are studying complexity science are arguing that the scientific findings that they have come across are not meter readings but something called RESONANCES, or echoes of something bigger!

No wonder Colossians 3:16 says:

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

IF GOD”S WORD IS IN YOUR HEART YOU ARE GOING TO COME TO THE HOUSE OF GOD AND PRAISE!

IF HIS WORD IS THERE IT IS GOING TO VIBRATE OUT!

Our bodies are filled with vibrations that set the tone of our lives.

Satan wants to steal your song of praise.

To strip you bare and tone you down.

To make your empty places empty until your matter does not matter any more.

It makes a difference what music you listen to.

There is music that creates negative states of consciousness.

There is a lot of music on the airwaves that are vibrating a harmonic clash to the sweet music of the soul.

Certain songs create certain moods and emotions.

Music is moving because it stirs up something deep within us.

That is why everything that is sold by radio or television is backed by a song, because a song gets down into the heart and it touches the human emotions.

The heavy beat of the bass sounds that comes from the cars passing by . . . its’ not just obnoxious, it is something dangerous.

Some bad vibes can actually kill you.

The Japanese mathematician, Susumu Ono, translated the funeral song from Chopan from musical notes into chemical equations, and the entire song is identical to a cancer gene found in human beings!

Bad vibrations!

They are all around us.

  • Dirty jokes
  • Bad music
  • Bad movies
  • Create bad attitudes and wrong behaviors.

Societies without God’s Word decline in morality and behavior.

Societies with God’s Word are blessed.

Two researchers actually hired a composer to put his heart rhythm into symphonic form. They are taking these songs into Beth Israel hospital, and they are calling them “heart songs”.

There is more emptiness in each of us than there is substance.

If all of the world’s 6 billion people could barely fill a beach ball with the solid parts of our atoms it is no wonder we feel empty.

If God’s Word is not there in the empty spaces, and they are empty, we find ourselves deaf and dead and without praise.

But when God’s Word is there we can’t help but talk about it.

Psalm 100 says to “Make a joyful NOISE unto the Lord”.

The old rock song, Louie, Louie was actually banned from being played at certain stadiums because the vibrations of that song gave off frequencies that shook the stadiums and has damaged many stadium structures and creates a safety risk for those attending.

Soldiers are taught to march out of step with each other when they cross a foot bridge because the vibrations of rhythm can actually endanger the bridge.

Scientist call this resonance . . . a tremendous explosion of energy. Something has to give. Whether it is steel or concrete, the vibrations from the song have power.

Several years ago in Tacoma, Washington the bridge collapsed because the wind created a double oscillation that matched the frequency of the bridge and the bridge came crashing down.

Every object, even a solid rock, has a tone. If that frequency is matched it will disintegrate the rock.

The singer Ella Fitzgerald could produce a pitch that could shatter crystal.

Rock musician Ted Nugent used to shatter glass with a certain guitar note in his performances.

Aside from God of course, vibration or resonance is the most powerful force in the universe.

We need to put on the spiritual sustain pedal and praise the Lord.

From the rising of the sun, to the going down of the same, the name of the Lord is to be praised!

“And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.”

Psalms 29:1-11

1 A Psalm of David. Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
2 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
5 The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
7 The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
8 The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.
11 The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.

The eyes may be the window to the soul, but the ears are the door.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (KJV)
1 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.

God chose speaking in tongues for a reason.

We are made in the image of God.

God is a creator.

Tongues replicate the creation process.

Vibrations of God’s Word impacting us, aligning us, restoring us.

Speaking forth the wonderful works of God

Tongues help you overcome the negative voice of the adversary . . .
Consider Eve . . . she allowed the serpent’s voice to supplant God’s voice

The serpent’s voice then led to other temptations.
Eve was beguiled because the serpent caused the forbidden fruit to be pleasant to the eyes.

She should’ve heeded the WORD of God.

We are the same . . .

More time with tongues and God’s Word leads to blessings . . .

More time with Jerry Springer and Days of Our Lives leads to issues

When Jesus was tempted by “sight” He responded with “IT IS WRITTEN.” The Word of God spoken and written MUST trump what the eyes can see. After all, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things NOT SEEN!”

IS GOD SPEAKING ALREADY BUT BECAUSE OF WHAT WE SEE WE CAN’T HEAR HIS VOICE?
