Trying To Catch Me Riding Dirty

Opening Text: I Peter 5; “8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour”.

Introduction: Sometimes on my way to church I listen to 99 Jamz Inspirational Jams, although some of the gospel songs they play are anything but inspirational. After I preached the last time I got in the car and the radio was still on 99 Jamz and I heard this song “Trying to catch Me Riding Dirty”. I had heard it before but this time my mind immediately went to the spiritual implications that I could associate with this idea. The next step was to see if there were scripture that would directly or indirectly support my thoughts. Day in and day out I have meditated on this message for the past two weeks and believe it or not just the title and the thought behind has taken me to another level in my spiritual walk with Christ.

I. Somebody and Some Thing is Watching & Listening to You

A. The Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes watched Jesus

1. They were trying to “Catch Him Riding Dirty”

2. Mark 12: 1-34; Key Verse #13 – “And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words”.

3. Luke 11: 45-54; Key Verses #53,54 “53And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things; 54Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse Him”.

B. Demons in the Church “Trying to Catch You and Me riding Dirty”

1. In Mark 3 verses 1 & 2 Jesus, “entered the synagogue; and there saw a man which had a withered hand. And they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath day; that they might accuse Him”.

II. They were “Trying to Catch Him Riding Dirty” but what they caught was: A. Jesus healing the sick

B. Raising the Dead

C. Feeding the hungry

D. Making the blind to see and the lame to walk

E. Comforting the broken hearted

F. Forgiving sin

G. What they caught was not Jesus “Riding dirty” but WHAT THEY CAUGHT WAS JESUS “RIDING HOLY, SANCTIFIED AND CLEAN”

III. Peter tells US to:

A. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour.

B. (Expound on how we can “ride dirty” and one day possibly even get caught “riding dirty”) – Riding with un-repented sin – Association –Appearance of Evil.

C. How Are You Riding?!

Conclusion (Preach)

1 Corinthians 7:1 “…dearly beloved let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God”.
