Why Don’t Christians Sing?
A short outline that scripturally focuses on the reasons why some do not sing in the church as worship to God.
I) Why don’t Christians sing?
A) Prevented by illness or unfamiliarity with the song – understandable, but rare
B) “Singing is only for women and girls” – sign of sexism in church, shown in membership and spirituality everywhere – Gal 3:28; 1 Pet 3:7
C) “Don’t have a good voice” – purpose of singing is not to please ears of man, but God – spiritual ears not physical – Jn 4:24
D) “Not in the mood, bored” – whose fault is that – God’s? or yours? – Mal 1:13
II) Why should Christians sing?
A) Speak to one another – Eph 5:19 – teaching and admonishing – Col 3:16
B) Thank God – Eph 5:20; Col 3:15-17
C) Praise God – Jas 5:13
III) What should we do?
A) Examine yourself – 2 Cor 13:5 – why aren’t you singing?
B) Count your blessings – Psa 148
Conclusion: I realize that singing is not an end unto itself. But not singing is a symptom of a problem – indifferent Christianity – which will show other symptoms, like poor attendance, spare contribution and eventually abandonment of the body of Christ.
