Go Tell It

Today in our little neck of the woods, I feel we have neglected to “go tell it”.

We assume that everyone knows. We know. So surely everyone else does also.

But do they? I think not. Everyone was not raised going to Sunday School. Everyone does not read the Bible. Everyone does not attend Bible Study. What are we to do about it?

Go tell it!!

I.  The Prophets Did.

·        The prophets of God foretold that the Messiah would come. There would be hope.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

·        A child will be these things. In Isaiah’s time it was still a prophecy. But to us….

·        Is He your Counselor? Is the name wonderful to you? Is Jesus your Mighty God, Is Jesus your everlasting Father and is Jesus your Prince of Peace? Tell someone He is ready because 2,000 years ago a child was born.

Zechariah 12: Zechariah 12:9 It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.

·        Here is a great prophecy. One that is yet to be fulfilled but yet one at the time it was written, Jesus had not came yet the first time.

Micah 5:2 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”

·        God would become a child to save His children. God the Father didn’t send God the Son, rather God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself.

II. The Angels Did.

·        The angel told Daniel the Messiah would come then 600 years later he told a virgin:

Luke 1:30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

Then he told her finance:

Matthew 1:20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” 22 So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

·        It is vital for us to understand who Jesus was. He was God manifested in the flesh. God had become salvation!

III. John Did

John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.” 32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.” 35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”

·        Jesus as the lamb and baptizer with the Holy Spirit. We need man to baptize us in water and God to baptize us with His Spirit.

IV. Jesus Did

·        Woman at the well…….

John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

·        Once she knew who He was she went and told. We should be the same today.

V. The Disciples Did.

Matthew 10:27 “Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

·        They went everywhere two by two. Proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom.

VI. The Apostles Did

·        On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Ghost was given, then Peter preached a sermon retelling the story and when those who heard wanted to be saved Peter said….

Acts 2:38

·        All through the book of Acts we have the telling and retelling of the story of Jesus. And the effect He has on one’s life.

Acts 5:27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 28 saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” 29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.

·        They couldn’t stop telling it. Even if they were beaten, jailed or threatened with execution.

Romans 9:1 I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit, 2 that I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh, 4 who are Israelites, to whom pertain the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the service of God, and the promises; 5 of whom are the fathers and from whom, according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, the eternally blessed God. Amen.

·        He is saying they missed Him will you? They had the best chance and messed it up.

VII. Will It Be Said We Did

·        What will be written about us? Let’s go tell it…..
