Give It All to Jesus

Mark 12:42-44

And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.  (43)  And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:  (44)  For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

The evidence of our giving is assigned and measuring stick of our spirituality.  This does not mean that if we give we are spiritual but what it does mean that, if we are spiritual, we will give in our spirituality, and it will be shown in our giving.

In our Scripture reading, we read of the woman that threw in the two mites.  Jesus said she cast in all she had even her living.  She gave her whole substance, her livelihood.  While the others gave out of their abundance, their extra, what they did not need.  The little woman by giving all was trusting Jesus.

As we look at our lives are we giving all to Jesus are we just giving the extra what we don’t need?  Look at what the Scripture says:

Malachi 1:7-8  Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.  (8)  And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

Willing to Give All I Don’t Have

A new convert declared his determination to give all that he had for the Master. He said, “Pastor, if I had fifty pigs, I’d give twenty-five of them to the Lord.” “That’s very nice,” said the pastor. “If you had thirty would you give fifteen to the Lord?” “Of course I would,” said the new Christian. “If you had ten would you give five of them?” asked the pastor again. “You know I would,” he answered. Then the pastor said, “If you had two, would you give one to the Lord?” “Now Pastor, don’t ask me that. You know I have only two pigs.”

The Word of the Lord is challenging us to look at what we give the Lord. Would we give it to the governor?  Would he be pleased with what we give to the Lord?  We have to give it All to Jesus.   The more we give to Jesus the more he will give back to us.

Ecclesiastes 11:1  Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

As you cast your bread, as you cast your seed, it will come again back to you but with an increase from God.

Proverbs 3:9-10  Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:  (10)  So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

The Bible tells us to honor the Lord would for substance (ability, power, (figuratively) wealth: – force, goods, might, strength, substance.)  and with the first fruits (order or rank (specifically a firstfruit): – beginning, chief (-est), first (-fruits, part, time), principal thing.)

Luke 6:38  Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

God’s Bigger Shovel

A farmer was known for his generous giving, but his friends could not understand how he could give so much away and yet remain so prosperous. One day a spokesman for his friends said, “We can’t understand you. You give far more than the rest of us and yet you always seem to have more to give.” “Oh, that is easy to explain,” the farmer said. “I keep shoveling into God’s bin and God keeps shoveling into mine, but God has the bigger shovel!” Here was a man whose ethics of giving were controlled by the power of an indwelling Lord.

Can we believe the Lord for the abundance of that which we give?

2 Kings 13:14-19  Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.  (15)  And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows. And he took unto him bow and arrows.  (16)  And he said to the king of Israel, Put thine hand upon the bow. And he put his hand upon it: and Elisha put his hands upon the king’s hands.  (17)  And he said, Open the window eastward. And he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot. And he shot. And he said, The arrow of the LORD’S deliverance, and the arrow of deliverance from Syria: for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.  (18)  And he said, Take the arrows. And he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground. And he smote thrice, and stayed.  (19)  And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times; then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it: whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.

Everything we have belongs to the Lord so let’s not be greedy with it but give it all back to him.

Acts 17:28  For in him we live, and move, and have our being;

Remember the scripture.

Acts 20:35  I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
