SUBJECT:  The Results of Living the Blessed Life

SCRIPTURE SETTING:

Psalms 1:3 – And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

I.        The Blessed Man has forsaken the company, ways and thoughts of those who do not know nor obey God and has chosen to establish as his primary and foundational relationship in all of life a relationship with God.                     ***The results of this choice are readily seen***

II.        The Blessed Life has a resulting characteristic of security which produces peace.

A.        “Planted” communicates a firmness of foundation.

1.        A state of permanence

2.        One songwriter wrote… “Just like a tree planted by the waters, I shall not be moved.”

B.        The picture is that of one of the palm trees that is able to draw from the unlimited flow of the river beside which it is growing.  As a result, it is stable.

C.        The Blessed Man is firmly rooted, he stands tall and erect, in spite of the winds of life, and the changes in the weather of circumstances.

1.        He has strength because his roots reach to the river’s resources.

2.        Psalm 46:4 tells us of this river.

Psalms 46:4 – There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

a.    “River” speaks of unfailing refreshment of spirit.

III.        Another result of the Blessed Life is fruitfulness.

A.        No human can truly be “blessed” or “happy” without purpose, direction and productivity in his life.

1.        It truly makes us happier (more blessed) to give than to receive.

2.        To know our lives have touched others and that as a result, someone else’s life is made better, is more completely satisfying than anything else in this life.

B.        As with the palm tree, every part of it is profitable – the leaves, the wood, and the fruit – so also is it with the Blessed Man.

1.        Everything about a Christian – his strengths and weaknesses, successes and failures, etc. – has a potential to profit those whose lives are touched by him.

C.        Read John 15:1-8

John 15:1-8 – I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

(2)  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

(3)  Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

(4)  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

(5)  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

(6)  If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

(7)  If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

(8)  Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

IV.        The Blessed Life produces consistency.

A.        Leaves depend upon their roots for their life.

1.        Withered leaves are a product of roots that have had the source of life cut off or diminished.  Isaiah 64:6-7

Isaiah 64:6-7 – But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

(7)  And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities.

B.        The Blessed Man has an outward life that is fresh, alive and healthy because the roots of his Christian life are constantly submerged in life-giving flow.  2 Corinthians 4:16

2 Corinthians 4:16 – For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

C.        In Psalm 51:10, David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew in me a right (Hebrew = sure, proper, prosperous, stable, steadfast, or fixed) spirit.

V.        The Blessed Life is one of ultimate victory in and over everything.

A.        WHATSOEVER – No limitations here.

B.        HE DOETH – He works with God and God with him.

1.        God does not bless “nothing”  Mark 16:20

Mark 16:20 – And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

C.        SHALL – No question, doubt, or fear left here!

D.        PROSPER – Success – 3 John 2.

3 John 2 – Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

1.        The promises of God concerning blessing, help, victory, etc. in abundance are far too numerous to even begin to name them.

VI.        There is no evidence to the contrary; in existence, that could ever prove that God has excluded anyone from having the right to live and experience the Blessed Life – an intimate relationship with God and His Word.
