Jephthah, A Man of Faith

Jephthah, A Man of Faith

In this sermon Jephthah, A Man of Faith, The story of Jephthah is recorded in Judges 10 - 12. A lot of people promise to renounce the devil and all his works. They vow to keep God's commandments and to serve him, but they never pay their vows. Hundreds of vows have been made to God when a person has been sick or while standing by the bedside of a dying loved one, or on a battlefield or other place of imminent danger. Have those promises been kept? Jephthah had enough integrity to say, "I have opened my mouth unto the Lord, and I cannot go back." The Bible does not say it is best not to make a vow to God, for there is no advancement in the spiritual life without such heart and lip pledges on the part of man. The warning sounded is not in the making, but in the non-fulfilling of the covenant.
