Divine forgiveness requires it as a human condition or more exactly, requires person-to-person prayer that gives expression to it. In the Chronicler's presentation of Solomon's temple, and in Chronicles generally, penitent prayer, rather than sacrifice, tends to be the God-appointed way of reconciliation.
