Over the holiday season, I took my family shopping in Chicago. As we were heading home to Indiana, it was dark and you could see the lights of the city. As we topped the Skyway (a very high bridge), I looked out and viewed a sea of rows of lights from the street lights below. Thousands and thousands of illuminating beams of light in every direction. As I drove along viewing the endless rows of lights that make up the Chicago skyline, I couldn’t help think about a man by the name of Thomas Edison. He’s the guy who thought up the light bulb. Without him, we would still be in the stone age with regards to much of the technological breakthroughs of this century. As I thought about Mr. Edison, I couldn’t help wishing he was there with me right then to see the spectacle of light that came from his dream.

Over 10,000 failed experiments went into the first light bulb being created. People all around him, inventors and investors alike said he was mad, even insane.

  • He believed in something no one else believed in.
  • He saw something no one else saw.
  • The light bulb!

You can buy them for around a quarter today. Imagine, a world without the light bulb. I could go on and on telling of all the inventions and advancement which came as a result of that one human hair dipped in carbon and encased in vacuumed glass.

It’s hard for us to imagine a world without cars, computers, airplanes, Palm Pilots or light bulbs. However think with me for a minute. For thousands of years, the best mode of transportation was the horse. From the beginning of time the very best thing the human mind could come up with was a saddle to put on that poor beast of burden. They thought they really came up with something when a guy from England came up with something called the stirrup to keep a rider from falling off.

This last century has been filled with incredible advancements which we credit to the superior minds of our century. However, I’m not so sure we should give the credit so vainly to our selves. Yes, the Wright brothers really had something with that small glider. Yes, Henry Ford had a great idea with that assembly line. But, let’s not be so foolish as to think that the medical, technological, manufacturing, farming, space exploration advancements have come from the human mind.

The scriptures declare that there would be an increase of knowledge in the last days. I believe and declare that none of these things would be possible except that God almighty has borrowed to this century a small portion of his own infinite intellect. Yes we have seen some incredible, almost miraculous inventions, but lets not think for a moment that any of it would be possible if it were not for scripture declaring it to be so.

Even this newsletter is an amazing thing to me. It will travel in just a few moments to thousands of people from all parts of the world in just a few short seconds. Could man really pull that off by himself? I don’t believe so. Not even a million men could think of a way to do that except that God had enlightened their understanding.

It is said of Thomas Edison that he was Attention Deficit. Other words, he could not stay on one thought for very long. He would start one project and before he could finish it, he was off on some new tangent. He found it hard to concentrate and focus. When the mind of God however, briefly extended Itself to Mr. Edison, he became one of the greatest inventors that the world has ever seen.

So here we are on the eve of the century of progress that hundreds of centuries before could not equal together. Here we are in a time when the mind of God has been lent to humanity. We live in the one small piece of time in which little is impossible to men. They can take a man’s heart out of his chest and hold it in their hands and then put in it’s place the heart of a baboon and the man will live. They can put a mechanical eyeball in a person and allow them to see with perfect vision. They have been to the Moon and to Mars. Today an American is manning the space station in outer space.

Why has God lent so much of his creative power to mortals? Why so much advancement in so little time? Why does he allow those same men to arrogantly deny the nonexistence of such a God. We have, as a people, became drunk on the knowledge that God has given us. We believe ourselves to be god’s because of this wisdom and knowledge. We think we are the ones who thought it all up. The Russian cosmonauts who first traveled to outer space arrogantly looked out of their tiny ship and said “where is God”?

I can’t help think of the pride of Babel. Those people had the same kind of thinking that our world has today. They thought they did not need God. They thought they could actually build a tower that would reach into the heavens, and would allow them to be their own God. They openly declared that they had no need of Him, because of their knowledge of tower building. However in one small swoop, God brought that makeshift ladder to Heaven down. Why? Because he was not about to allow His creation to think itself bigger than Him.

But here is my quandary. If God would destroy Babel in one day, how is it that he allows the arrogance of our generation. Why does He tolerate such pride and self sufficiency. I believe He is allowing this period of human intelligence for one reason. To propagate the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And I believe that is the only reason. Why the car? Why the airplane? Why the internet? Why all these miraculous advancements of modern days? To get the message of Salvation to a lost and dieing world. His mandate to the Church is this, “Go Ye Into All The World”. In no other century has this been possible like it has in this century.

PreachIt.org is currently being used as a resource for Apostolic ministers in countries around the world. Men and women who I will never meet have contacted me and let me know what a blessing it is in their ministry. Some of these people are in back woods churches in some of the most remote places in the world. Neither you nor I would have any way of sharing with them the wonderful Truths of God’s Word without it. Yet because of space exploration, we have the computer and because of the computer, we have the internet. And because of the internet, I can share an outline of a message that God gave me to preach with another man of God in Pakistan or in Afghanistan or in Romania or in Alaska or anywhere else as far as I can tell.

This is the period the scripture declared would share great wisdom. There is no doubt about that. However, we should remind ourselves that it has been given us for a reason. God in His infinite wisdom wanted the End time church to have at it’s disposal every advantage and benefit to Preach This Gospel.

Am I afraid of technology? Not at all. I welcome it. I embrace it. But most of all, I want to know, how can I use it to benefit the Church? What can it do for the Cause of Christ?

Hey folks, God has given us certain things for such a time as this. Believe it or not one addition to our church was a young man who visited a Christian chat room and heard about our church. A young woman before him is someone who I accidentally typed in the wrong email address to. I thought I was contacting another minister and I accidentally contacted her. As a result of my blunder, she is a part of our church and a huge blessing at that.

Isn’t God wonderful. We should marvel at the advancements of our century of progress. Yet keeping that wonder in perspective, we know that God allows it in order that this message can get out to more people in more places at a moment in time in which the Earth is populated more than it ever has been before. Is that a coincidence? No, it’s His perfect plan, coming together to one great triumphant moment in which every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!
