What is Pentecost?

Acts 2:1-4

1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

What is Pentecost?

-Religion

-Holiday

-Feast

-In the Old Testament there was a Feast of Pentecost. It was also called the feast of the harvest, and the feast of the weeks. It was 50 days after the beginning of the planting season, and was a thankful feast to thank the Lord for the bountiful harvest He was going to give. In today’s language that means 50 days after Easter, which is when we celebrate the resurrection of Christ.

-50 in the Greek language is Pentecost.

-Pentecost became flagged as the day the initial outpouring of the Holy Ghost took place.

-It also was the start of the first church! Only after the outpouring of the Holy Ghost was the group of believers referred to as a church.

-Pentecost then became synonymous with the experience of the Holy Ghost.

John 9:24-25

24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

You cannot argue with an experience. Logic, theory, or reason have no leg to stand on when it comes to experiencing something for yourself.

Pharisee’s tried to tell the once blind man that his healing was a fake.

“I once was blind but now I see”

The receiving of the Holy ghost starts the Experience in your life, of not just religion, but rather God living on the inside of you 24/7.

Psalm 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Only by tasting of the Lord can we tell if he is good!

The Holy Ghost is a promise that God gave to everyone!

Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

It is for everyone and it is still being poured out today!

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Mark 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

Luke 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

John 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

We can definitely see that there is a promise of the Holy ghost coming!

but what is the Holy ghost?

John 14:18-20

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

The Holy Ghost is nothing more than God’s Spirit living inside you all of the time.  That’s why this is an experience and not a religion!

Religion will never satisfy the longing in your heart, but the Holy ghost can!

Religion will always let you down, but God never will!

Religion is only a man-made structure based on Biblical principles, but the human element still reigns in religion and therefore it will have flaws, but God has no flaws.

The Holy Ghost goes beyond Sunday church, preachers, or even buildings, it reaches into the heart of humanity and satisfies the most basic urge humanity has, and that is to worship God.

This is simply a fulfillment of what Jesus had just told them to go and tarry for.

Although the religious scoffers of the day said they were just drunk with new wine.

Acts 2:14-18

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Joel 2:28-29

28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

The initial outpouring of the Holy Ghost was fulfilled in Acts 2, but it is still being outpoured today

Acts is the only book in NT that does not end with Amen, that is because it is still being lived out today.

If you have not received the Holy Ghost, you can today! It is for you!

There is more of God than what you have, if you do not have the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Acts 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

The Holy Ghost is still being outpoured today!

How do I get the Holy Ghost?

-Repentance

-Baptism in Jesus name, by immersion as according to the scriptures, for the remission of all of your sins

-then God will fill you with the Holy Ghost, and when you are full you will speak with tongues

Experience the experience of Pentecost!
