One More Mountain To Cross

Zechariah 4:6-10

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

8 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.

10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Zerubbabel means born in Babylon. That’s where we were born as Babylon represents the world and who we are before we are born again.

The building of the house of God did not happen as fast as it was meant to (It began under Cyrus and was completed sometime later under Darius). The reason was, in part, that the people were busy building homes of their own.

There was nothing wrong with that, it needed to be done, but how much better off would they have been if they focused on the house of God first.

Even though there were some mistakes along the way, (sound familiar) Zerubbabel’s story is one of unyielding faith

He just needed a few reminders of who was doing the work and who was being used to do it.

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

Who art thou O great mountain?

  • What doth hinder you? Is it your family again?, is it your job? Or is it just you?

Before Zerrubabel thou shalt become a plain:

  • There is only one way that a statement like that could be made in the light of God’s word. The angel was well aware:

Isaiah 63:1

1 Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this that is glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

  • Except the Lord go before you, you travel in vain
  • God had a plan and now Zerubbabel was beginning to understand his marching orders.
  • When you REALLY get on God’s side:

Rom 8:35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  • You might as well know that it is time to quit doing what you think is right and start getting in on God’s plan!!!
  • It rarely makes sense until the victory is won!

Matthew 6:33-34

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Isaiah 40:3-4

3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:

And he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

  • To this funeral director a headstone means two things:
  1. There is a need to memorialize something or someone
  2. The life of the thing being memorialized is done. In this case, the dream has become reality!
  • In the mind of God, the thing was already accomplished
  • Grace, grace…Nothing we ever accomplish for good or for God is without His invitation and prodding at times to do so. He invites and He empowers!

The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.

  • God is not the problem, He is the problem solver.
  • Zerubbabel was appointed to the task and Hell would be chained forever if that is what it took just to make sure that what God said would happen, did happen.
  • You need never worry about God’s level of commitment to His people. His word is “yea and amen” while ours is “are you sure about that?”
  • When it is all said and done, you’re going to know who to give the glory to.

I don’t know what mountain you’re on today, but you need to get off of it and let God make it a plain.

Here is where victory beings:

Romans 8:28

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  • Every thing about God’s plan for you will culminate one day for all eyes to see and just like in the days of creation, it will be good!
  • One of the things you need to keep ever present in your mind and lifestyle is that you are one that LOVE’S God!
  • Know of a surety, whatever purpose God has for your life, He that began a good work in you is able to keep you until the end:
  • If He called you to salvation, you had best just start living like you’re saved!
  • If He called you to be a soul winner, then get the message out like a mad man, somebody is going to listen if you tell everyone; no one is going to listen if that’s who you tell!
  • Whatever God told you He would do, He can and will do.

It is just one more mountain to cross and mountains don’t hinder God!
